Programming open source code for fun and profit!

About Me

I'm a programmer and web developer based out of Buenos Aires, Argentina. At the moment I work primarily with Ruby but also do a lot of open source work with Lua. In the past I worked quite a bit with Java and PHP. I'm a fan of programming in general and like well-made things, regardless of what technology they use. My focus is on back-end systems and web application architecture. I also do front-end work but only as an implementor and not as a designer.

Open Source Work

Most of my open source work can be found on my Github profile.

I was one of the organizers of Locos X Rails 2009, the first major Ruby/Rails conference in Spanish-speaking Latin America. I'm currently organizing our next conference, which will be held in Buenos Aires in April 2010.

Commercial Work

For 10+ years was a partner in a small Internet advertising business based out of Seattle, WA and San Jose, CA. I recently resigned to spend a year focused on open source development.

In the past I've worked in the biotechnology, nanotechnology, and dot-com worlds. When they're interesting enough, I occasionally do some freelance projects. My most recent gig was Ciudad.com's FotoBlog, one of the highest-traffic sites in Argentina.

Personal Life

I grew up in Gardiner, NY and went to school at UMass Boston and the University of Connecticut. I lived for many years in Seattle and, for better or worse, consider it my home city in the USA. In college I majored in Hispanic Studies but did most of my actual work as independent studies in theoretical linguistics, including a 5-student undergraduate course in early Minimalist Syntax taught by Noam Chomsky. I've always been instested in things that blur the lines between the literary and the mathematical.
