Clara Nunes - Como é grande e bonita a natureza and Feira de Mangaió
Clara Nunes is one of my favorite singers of all time. While many Brazilian singers have made credible or even very good recordings in both the forró and samba genres nobody that I know of sounds so idiomatic or was as much a master of both distinct styles.
This video shows Clara interpreting two compositions by Sivuca, and starts off with my favorite recording of hers, Como é grande e bonita a natureza. Try to forgive the cheesy 80's video filming quality - though I'm sure the flyover shots were considered cutting edge at the time - and just listen to the music. At 3:11 the video cuts to an OK live recording of Feira de Mangaió but then at 4:10 leads into an incredible live performance of the same song by both Clara and Sivuca. Pay attention to her incredible sense of timing, on full display in this video.
